SUMMARY:WEBINAR - Breaking Business Barriers - Propel Business with Sales & Marketing
DESCRIPTION:This WEBINAR will propel your marketing and sales skills in the Space to Grow programme\, hosted by the University of Essex Enterprise Zone\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nCreated and led by the University of Essex Enterprise Zone\, the Space to Grow programme is designed to help businesses scale up and tap into profitable markets. Breaking down the barriers that are restricting your business growth and providing you with the tools to overcome obstacles. \nMarketing and Sales \nPresented by Malcolm Johnston. \nSelling is not telling and yet many businesses recruit salespeople on the basis that they have “the gift of the gab”. Once recruited and\, having won a few customers\, the salesperson is then motivated to acquire more customers instead of retaining those already won. Reward is based on revenue not relationship. \nGiven that salespeople are key to the delivery and communication of value\, its extraordinary how much of the sales cycle and salesmanship is left to chance. And\, for start ups and scale ups whose core competencies may not yet include “salesmanship” or “account management” the problem is even more acute – particularly if the founder has to “sell” the idea to a potential investor. \nWith an emphasis on process and people\, this workshop will outline the role of a 21st century salesperson and describe an effective sales process where rigorous qualification will help to build a robust pipeline of opportunities. We will also explore methods that will help to build rapport and long-term commitment through effective solution selling. \nThe output from this workshop will help to stimulate a different way of thinking for your salespeople\, marketers and customer facing directors. This session takes account of three significant changes in buying behaviour: \n• B2B Buyers are 57% of the way through their purchasing decision before they engage with sales \n• 60% of all customers stop dealing with a company because of what they perceive as indifference on the part of salespeople \n• 70% of customers leave a company because of poor service\, which is usually attributed to a salesperson \n• Customers who feel their salespeople are exceptional are 10 to 15 times more likely to remain loyal. \nFollowed by pre-booked ZOOM 1:2:1 sessions to discuss next steps – these will take place after 10am. Don’t forget to pre-book these. \nWhat’s next – a diary of events and support that is available through this Space to Grow programme and the Innovation Centre Knowledge Gateway.

\nMalcolm debunks the myths about “marketing” as simply promotion and discusses the need to change marketing from product push to a strategic process based on better understanding of customer needs – both explicit and implicit. \nThe workshop explores how externally focused businesses succeed and how effective cross-functional relationships between sales\, marketing and customer service can facilitate the delivery of customer value. Malcolm takes an holistic view of the customer and provides practical advice and exercises that business leaders can apply at any scale and in both B2B and B2C businesses. \nThis workshop will examine what marketing is about: \n• Identifying value \n• Creating value \n• Delivering value \n• Communicating value \nWith an emphasis on the first and last of these; identifying what customers value and ensuring that this value is communicated pre-and post-purchase\, consistently and aligned with the business’s value proposition. The workshop will stimulate your thoughts about how three key functions work together (sales\, marketing\, customer service) and whether they are communicating the right messages at a macro and micro level. \nThe output from this workshop will help to stimulate a different way of thinking for your sales people\, marketers and customer facing directors. This session takes account of three significant changes in buying behaviour: \n• B2B Buyers are 57% of the way through their purchasing decision before they engage with sales \n• On average\, a B2B customer will regularly use 6 different interaction channels throughout the purchase process\, and 66% are frustrated by inconsistent experiences. \n• Marketing can now deliver much better targeted\, customised messages to individual members of a DMU \nFollowed by 1:2:1 ZOOM sessions with our own Innovation Advisers. Don’t forget to book your own 1:2:1 \nWhat’s next – a diary of events and support that is available through this Space to Grow programme and the Innovation Centre Knowledge Gateway.

SUMMARY:Essex Cloud Computing - Kubernetes inter-operability of open-source tools
DESCRIPTION:(In light of the COVID-19 situation we are looking at how we deliver events over the coming period. For now all physical attendance has been stopped. We are attempting to deliver some of these events virtually.  Please keep an eye on the website for updates) \nJoin us for beer and pizza at the second Essex Cloud Computing Meetup hosted at the Innovation Centre\, Knowledge Gateway. \nKatie Gamanji will be giving a fantastic talk about Kubernetes and open source tools.\nIn the past years\, Kubernetes has been the nucleus of container orchestration frameworks. Numerous tools have been developed to extend Kubernetes capabilities and enhance its features. Over time\, tools with similar functionalities would have fundamentally different implementations and practices to converge with the Kubernetes components. The emergence of shared standards and a set of best practices became imperative. \nThis talk will focus on the evolution of interfaces within the Kubernetes landscape\, including networking\, storage\, service mesh\, and cluster provisioning. Attendees will acquire an understanding of why the interoperability of open-source tools is pivotal in the modern infrastructure. \nKatie is currently a Cloud Platform Engineer at American Express. Former cloud platforms engineer at Condé Nast\, that contributed to the creation of a centralized\, globally distributed platform\, with Kubernetes as its centerpiece. In the past\, she worked on maintaining and automating site delivery on OpenStack based infrastructure\, which transitioned into a role that focuses on designing\, deploying and evolving cloud-native infrastructure. \nA strong advocate for women in STEM\, and public speaker on topics that gravitate towards cloud-native tools and Kubernetes ecosystem. \nTravel\nFree parking is available in the university car parks after 4.30pm. The closest car park is just past the Innovation Centre on your left.\nPlease visit https://www.essex.ac.uk/life/colchester-campus/how-to-get-here for more information on how to get there.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR - Propel your business with sales and marketing
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will propel your business with sales and marketing skills as part of the Space to Grow programme\, hosted by the University of Essex UEZ.\n\nCreated and led by the University of Essex Enterprise Zone\, the Space to Grow Programme is designed to help businesses scale up and tap into profitable markets. Breaking down the barriers that are restricting your business growth and providing you with the tools to overcome obstacles.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nTopic: Marketing and Sales \nPresented by: Ventura Digital. \nFor every business\, digital channels provide an invaluable tool for creating new and long-term customers. This seminar will focus on the utilisation of digital marketing tactics to drive customer acquisition including both B2B and B2C audiences. \nMany businesses spend a lot of time and money on perfecting their online user experience. A common question regarding this topic is “what is marketing funnel strategy?” as well as a followup question asking what its benefit is. Implementing a funnel strategy in marketing and analysing the performance of that funnel can help a business to gain deeper insights about their customers and their customers’ journeys through their website and make sure that your online presence is functioning as planned and helping to convert new customers. \nBig data solution providers can collect the data needed for in-depth conversion-funnel digital marketing analysis. The insights gained from this analysis are then used to inform decisions on your digital strategy\, website development\, and marketing with the goal of acquiring and retaining customers. \nThe event organiser will contact you with the Zoom link shortly after booking. \nAgenda \nIntroduction to the digital marketing landscape \nIntroduction to funnel marketing \nTest & learn (multivariate) methodology for customer acquisition and conversion \nKey functions of a performance marketing strategy: \nObjectives \nExample KPIs (B2B and B2C coverage) \nChannel selection & key considerations \nAutomation and conversion rate optimisation \nMeasurement systems \nOverview of technology stack options for analytics\, acquisition and advocacy \nQ&A \nFollowed by pre-booked 1:2:1 Zoom sessions to discuss next steps – these will take place after 10am. Don’t forget to book your place for one of these. \nStuck in isolation? We have a whole series of business support sessions running over the coming weeks.
